What's the best way to practise vocabulary, prepositions and spelling? By playing hide and seek, building blocks and demonstrating - in short: with fun & games!
Every summer, shortly before the start of the next school year, the LIMU Academy offers a German Crash Course. This takes place every day for a week and helps the children to immerse themselves in the German language, experience it with fun and enjoyment and thus, get in the right mood for the new semester. This year's course took place in the last week of August and - as is usual for the LIMU Academy - creativity, a spirit of discovery and playful learning combined with the German language took centre stage.
To practise vocabulary, the course instructor Alexandra encouraged the children to walk around the room and point out various objects. The other children then diligently called out: “F for Fenster (window), B for Bank (bench), T for Tisch (table) and S for Sessel (chair).” It was great to see how everyone joined in full of ambition.
This was followed by an exciting game of hide and seek in which various prepositions and their cases were practised in a natural way: “An animal figure is hidden UNDER the cover (unter dem), NEXT TO the box (neben der) or BETWEEN two cloths (zwischen).” Not only were more and more hiding places gradually discovered, but also the grammar of prepositions.
To round things off, the building blocks were used. Names, objects and animals were placed with the bricks and the children had to guess what was depicted. The guessing game was accompanied by a lot of laughter and creativity as well as the fun practise of spelling and the German language in general!
